Compilation

It has been a busy week around here. I had so much I wanted to share with you and have just not had the time to sit down and do it, till now. So this post will be a big pile of it all on one day.

First I was ask to share this recipe.

lt is quick and easy and oh so good.

Beer Bread

3 cups self rising flour

3 T sugar

12 oz. beer

Fold together all ingredients, just till moist.
Butter a loaf pan and place batter in pan.
Bake in preheated, 375* oven for 55-60 minutes.
Or until browned nicely.
Remove from oven and then from pan and allow to cool on wire rack.

******We like the crust to be crunchy so I remove it from the pan and then place it on the oven rack after the oven has been turned off. Close the door and let it cool with the oven. This makes wonderful toast or grilled cheese sandwiches.*****

I have been trying to incorporate more movement into my daily routine. So I am having to get creative about doing it. I thought I would share a few of my tips and hope you will in turn share some with me.

I do Zumba at least 2 evenings a week

I take a toning class on fridays.

I wear a pedometer every day and always log at least 10,000 steps. More like 14,000 is what I aim for.

When I go to the store or Dr.'s office I always park as far from the door as I can and walk the additional steps.

When I go to Zumba class I get there 15 minutes early and walk fast for 5 minutes and then turn and walk back to class.

I take the stairs in hospitals or office buildings.

Today is thursday so let me share some of the things that I am thankful for today.

I am thankful for my dads health and ability to keep moving at 86 years of age.

And for the nudge he has given me to keep moving as well.

I am thankful for all the good Dr. reports that hubs has been getting.

Also for the time to sketch in my sketch pad.

And time to crochet.

Recycle or Upcycled

These are 2 words that at first glance we think of as a new phrase. Well not new but just a few years old. We know what they mean. It is when someone takes an item that is intended for one purpose and remakes it for another. Here are just a few examples.

This is a necklace made from an old spoon that had seen its better days and I am sure no one would have wanted to have used it to eat with.

And these are crosses that are made from old carpenter rulers.

Well I am here today to ask you to just think a little about the terms recycled and upcycled. Because I believe that while those words might be somewhat new to our language, the concept goes way back and has been practiced for years and years.

Stay with me here, if you are a Christian then you realize that we are all born sinners and that God can/will take us as we are and "upcycle" us into something wonderful and useful. Into something beautiful on the inside and outside. Something created in his image with a new and fabulous purpose.

So I hope the next time you hear the words upcycle or recycle you stop for a few and remember that modern day man may have coined the terms, but the concept was created by our maker. And he is the best at what he does.

Feel Good Friday

Well I started out today with some bible time and then a cup of coffee and my sketch pad.

Later I met a friend for coffee. We were going to do lunch but neither of us need to be eating all that much so we decided on coffee so we will feel more like we are doing it together instead of just eating. The weather was so nice outside that we went to the park and walked about 2 miles afterwards.

I came home after and baked Beer Bread. A loaf for us and a loaf for a neighbor. So today is about feeling good and I thought it might be nice to make someone else feel good too. i spent some time with the neighbors when I took over the bread. her hubs has Parkinson's disease and she is his full time care giver. So they enjoyed the company and so did I.

So what did you do today to make yourself or someone else feel better?

Thankful Thursday and This and That

The sun is shining today. And there is a slight breeze blowing outside. The two will work together to dry up the ground and get it ready for plowing.

The Heelers are enjoying time resting today after being outside for most of the morning.
They try to act like they don't like each other, but I will find them laying together like this or even bathing each others faces. They are just like to kids.....I swear if they could talk they would be saying, he is looking at me, make him stop!!

Finished more of these crosses today and will add them to the totes of product for my upcoming shows.

***********************************************
Things I am thankful for:

* Auto insurance which helped replace my van

* The wind and sunshine which are drying up the soggy ground

* Our food stores from last summer

* the fact that it is time to start playing in the dirt again

* all of my craft supplies that enable me to stay occupied

* my energy level which has increased as I am losing weight and exercising

Wellness Wednesday

Colon Cancer affects men and women of all racial and ethnic groups and is most often found in people over 50 years of age.

Feel Good Friday

Today is a day to think about ourselves and what we can do to feel good. What can you do to lift your spirits?

Perhaps taking some time to read in your bible, maybe something in addition to what you normally do.

Or doing a small project with a child or a friend. Seeing what others sees through their eyes always makes me smile.

Take a bit of time and sit in the sunshine. Soak in some Vitamin D and gather your thoughts.

Plan for the gardens and flower beds you are going to plant as soon as the ground thaws out.

So what are you doing today for yourself?

I am going to sit on the deck with my sketch pad and doodle for awhile this afternoon. Won't you join me?

Do take some time for you, you deserve it!

Thankful Thursday

Today is full of sunshine and chilly weather. But I still have so much to be thankful for.

****************

I am thankful that no one was hurt when I totaled my van.

And that we found a replacement for the van and will pick it up tomorrow.

I am thankful for my family and friends.

I am thankful for all the sunshine that has been shining.

And for all the singing birds that have made it back in time for spring.

Wellness Wednesday

I am getting healthy and shedding some pounds, sometimes faster than others. But slow and steady works for me. It could work for you to. Last year I made my yearly visit to the Dr. And found my cholesterol was to high and my triglycerides and my weight. Well after spending the past year watching how I cooked and making some changes here and there and also trying to get a walk in whenever possible, I was able to get the numbers under control. Well at least the Cholesterol and triglycerides.

So this year it is time to work on the weight.
I am watching what I eat and making much better choices. As well as moving a much as possible. This really is the key for me. There never was a lot of sitting going on around my house but now there is even less.

So I would love to hear about you and what made you get moving or even what moving you enjoy doing. Zumba is my new love right now and I can't seem to get enough. Now I am not saying I am real good at it but the most important part is that I am moving.

Tasty Tuesday

Sometimes you just need a quick and easy treat. Something to satisfy a sweet tooth in the young and the old. Nothing that is to expensive. And something that you have all the ingredients for right in your pantry. And the best part is it is quick and easy!

Corn Flake Cookies

1 cup light corn syrup
4 cups corn flakes
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 cup peanut butter

Bring corn syrup and sugar up to temperature, stirring constantly until sugar dissolves. Add peanut butter and vanilla. Stir till peanut butter is melted, then pour over corn flakes and fold together till all is coated. Drop by spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Or line it with parchment paper. Allow to cool. Cookies will set up as they cool.

******I have even made these without the peanut butter and added maple flavoring instead of vanilla*****

I hope you enjoy these as well as my kids used to!

I Am Confused!

I do not understand. Maybe it is something I am doing wrong. Or maybe blogger is just messin' with me.

I have noticed for the last few posts I have made that something was wrong. But yesterday I posted about changing the clocks and it never showed up in my follow feed. Then this morning it was there and it said I had posted 3 hours ago. What?!! More like 29 hours ago!

Am I the only one having this issue? Are any of the rest of you noticing this kind of thing with your posts? Or is blogger just out to get me!

Please share, I feel like I am out there and no one knows I'm home!

Spring Forward

I don't know about you but I have been waiting for this day all winter long. To me it is like the sounding gun at a race. It is the beginning of a new and vibrant time. The first day of the rest of our lives! It is a small leap for mankind. Well as you can tell I am excited! You see sunday at 2am we set the clocks forward one hour. That means more daylight at the end of the day. Yeah, yeah, clap, clap!

Don't forget or everyone will know, because you will be the only one late for church!

Feel Good Friday

I started this whole thing about trying to feel good over here, so if you want to see where it all began you can.

We are all about over this winter weather. And I am happy to say that it seems just maybe the winter weather is about over as well. THAT WILL MAKE ME FEEL GOOD!

But there are things all around us from day to day that just might put a smile on your face. But you have to be watching for them sometimes or they will slip right by you. Here is a list of a few things that bring a smile to my face.

Spending time with friends.

Watching others smile.

Watching children play.

Being with my family.

Throwing a ball with my furry friends.

Sitting with the good book.

Drawing in the sunshine.

What are some of the things that make you smile?

Tasty Tuesday

Today is Fat Tuesday and rumor has it you are suppose to eat fried sweet breads  today.

Now if that is not good enough of a reason, it is also "National Pancake Day".

My husband loves pancakes and really never needs a reason to eat them, except that they are just there on his plate. I thought I would share an easy and wonderful take on pancakes that I fix often.

Banana Walnut Pancakes

Fluffy Banana-Nut Pancakes

2 c. self rising flour
4 T. sugar
2 egg
1 1/2 cups buttermilk
2 ripe bananas
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (divided)

Measure sugar and flour into a bowl and mix. Place 2 eggs, buttermilk, bananas and 1/4 cup of walnuts in blender or nutri bullet container. Whirl till no lumps remain. ( just a few seconds) Now pour wet into dry ingredients and stir till moist. Now stir in remaining walnuts.
Have skillet or griddle hot and brush with oil, ladle on batter, cook till golden brown on both sides. Serve with maple syrup.

We sometimes add more walnuts to this recipe.

Now if you are not into cooking early in the morning you can fix these babies for dinner and they are just as big of a hit.

If you want pancakes today and do not want to cook them you can go here to get free ones. Because today is free pancakes at IHop!

********** I am not being paid to share this with you but it is my opinion*******

Snow Days

Today was a snowy day. Started out around 30 degrees but the temps continued to drop throughout the day and it is now around 19 degrees. We had about a half inch of ice and 6 1/2 inches of snow on top of that and I just might have to add that it is very heavy snow.

This was a small section of the sidewalk where I shoveled so you could see how deep the snow was. But after I post it I see it really doesn't show very well!!

As the day went on the sunshine was pretty. And the blue sky was wonderful.

Funny looking sight around my garden pond which of coarse is frozen.

Well thats about it for now, but tomorrow is "Tasty Tuesday" and I have a treat for you.
