Wordy Wednesday

The weather is breaking and it really feels good. Cooler nights make for good sleeping. But it also turns off the switch on garden production. So tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers are all that I am getting now and they won't last long. I didn't really get any fall garden planted. so I will just gleen what I can from the garden and then put it to bed for the winter.

I have been creating for an upcoming show in Lucasville, Ohio the weekend of Sept. 25, 26, 27. It is located at the fairgrounds, so if you happen to be in the area stop by and enjoy all the festivities.

this is a bathmat or a dish drying mat

I also use them for a mat to take to the gym for standing on as I change after showering.

This week dinners will be whatever I grab. Hubs will be on a fishing trip and I am leaving for a show the day he returns. So I will try not to eat BAD but it will not be fancy.

Tasty Tuesday

So the weather is changing and before long we will start to see the colors of the leaves changing as well. This time of year makes me begin to think of soups and stews and such. You know what I mean, the warm foods. For the times when we need warmed from the inside out. I thought I would share a recipe with you today that I can remember my grandmother making. Now I use my home canned tomatoes but you can use store bought just calculate your ounces so you use the right amount.

Tomato Dumplings

2 quarts canned tomatoes

1/4 c. sugar

1 cup water

*****I do not use all the sugar that is called for. It is a taste preference****

Place above items in a large soup pot and bring to a boil.

Dumplings.......1 1/2 cups self rising flour

1/4 cup dry milk

1/4 tsp. sugar

1 cup water

Mix these ingredient to make dumplings into stiff dough. The more you stir or handle this dough the "stouter" the dumplings will be. Drop into boiling mixture by cutting small portions of the spoon with a knife. Turn heat to simmer but do not stir till dumplings are set. Just before serving add a couple pats of butter and allow to melt into the pot.

*****we like a fair amount of coarse ground pepper added to this before serving****

I can remember Mamaw using this as a side dish but we use it like a stew.

If you try this recipe please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Is Newer Always Better?

Everywhere you look anymore someone is tooting a new product. Always promising it is better than the last one. This seems to ring the most in the health and beauty world.

Have A Safe And Happy Weekend

Whether you are traveling or staying at home I hope you enjoy your family and friends on this last weekend of summer. The last fling of summer!

Maybe a little BBQ'ing around here but that is about it. We will just enjoy a quiet weekend.

Let me share a few shots with you.

These are some beautiful blooms that are still showering me with their beauty from a window box. And my new manicure!

Here is what I am still getting from the garden. Just enough to eat on but I am not complaining at all.

Also still getting a few cucumbers but those will end soon. So the farmers market will be my go to for fresh veggies as we are trying to eat cleaner.

Have a fun weekend and be safe! See you all on Monday.

Hump Day!

Hot and humid is the only way to explain it. But it is only September so what more can we expect. But it still seems as if the weather is a bit wonky if you ask me.

Still getting cucumbers from the garden.

Not getting enough at one time this year to put up for winter but plenty to eat and besides just eating them in salad or out of hand this is our favorite way to have them.

I have had a perpetual pickle jar in the fridge all summer long. This one has cucumbers and onions in it but sometimes you might find other tid bits of veggies just waiting for dinner or snack time. Now I done use a recipe for this but i will say I use equal parts vinegar and water and something to sweeten it just a touch. Just enough to take that "choke you" away from the vinegar! And I add lots of coarse ground black pepper.

I am a day late with the changing of the mug. Sorry about that, but yesterday was a true busy day. Now this month I had to think about what I really wanted to use as a mug and I decided I wanted to hold on to a little piece of summer. At least some of its memories!

What are you doing to hang on to a little bit of summer as we push closer to fall?

Now let me leave you with a bit of a teaser for the next blog post, newer is not always better.

See you soon!
